One of the barriers for the development of affordable housing is access to affordable land to build on. The Town is looking at their inventory of municipally-owned lands to identify parcels that could be developed to increase the housing supply, especially for projects that include affordable options.
The Town has identified multiple potential parcels, including a large piece of centrally located greenfield land that can support the development of new homes.
More than building homes, this initiative has the potential to create a new community within Bridgewater. It is important that this will be a thoughtfully designed area to improve walkability and access to amenities, creating more opportunities to live, work, and play in a vibrant and connected neighbourhood.
This initiative will create a strategy and program to make parcels of municipally owned land available for non-profit and private sector housing development that will provide a diversity of housing types.
The map below shows municipally owned parcels that have the potential for future housing development. We want to know what you think! Which parcels would you like to see developed? What do you think should go there? What public amenities do you think should be included in larger developments?
